DUNDAS VALLEY SCHOOL OF ART: Wednesday: January 9 - March 6 (9 weeks) 6:45 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
Enliven your paintings by learning and experimenting with the bold brushwork, vibrant colours and energized compositions of master painters, CÚzanne and Van Gogh. Many artists, including the Group of 7, have been inspired by these lively "painting as drawing" techniques. Through short weekly exercises, you'll experiment with different methods of composing a scene, selecting hues and making marks. Then, apply this knowledge to your own compositions. Acrylics, oils and/or watercolour. All levels. Part 1: CÚzanne and the Art of the Still-Life (5 weeks), Part 2: Van Gogh and Modelling Landscape (4 weeks). Online info and DVSA registration is under Painting / Adult / Wednesdays
ART GALLERY OF HAMILTON: Sundays: January 27, February 3, 10, 17, 24, March 3 (6 weeks)Understanding Colour (Adult Painting Studio)
"Why do two colours, put one next to the other, sing?" Picasso asked. Let's find out. Learn the basic principles of Colour Theory through weekly colour mixing experiments and acrylic painting exercises. We will first learn how to mix specific hues from the primary colours. We will then explore how to use dark and light values effectively; how to create interesting contrasts; and how to make harmonious colour schemes. Weekly visits to the AGH Galleries and catalogues will provide close-up examples of how artists from different art movements use colour. No painting experience required. Suitable for All Levels. Register On-line at the AGH.
